Daniel Sean James, 46, is accused of attacking Kirandeep Kaur, 24, in her home on Uxbridge Road in Hayes, west London, on Sunday morning. He then allegedly jumped out of a window and broke both ankles before being detained by police nearby, the Old Bailey was told.

Minutes later, at about 07:50 BST, he allegedly kicked at the door of Kaur's home and broke in while the family-of-three were asleep in bed. Prosecutor Charlene Sumnall said Kaur's husband awoke to the sound of a scream from his wife and saw a figure leaving the bedroom.

On Thursday, James, of Mercer Place, Pinner, west London, appeared at the Old Bailey by videolink from Wormwood Scrubs.
