With the Switch 2 getting a price hike in September, this holiday season will be pivotal for Nintendo. That increased cost means that the company will rely heavily on new games to sell its current console — but as of right now the lineup for the second half of the year is sparse. However, without getting into specifics, president Shuntaro Furukawa has made it clear the company still has a number of titles in the works for 2026.
Nintendo just released the translated English Q&A from its most recent financial results, and in it Furukawa notes the importance of big games for selling hardware. “The way that Pokémon Pokopia has contributed to hardware sales reaffirms our belief that the availability of software that people want to play is a key factor supporting the transition to Nintendo Switch 2,” he explained. RelatedThe future of game consoles is looking bleakNintendo is weathering the stormAs for what’s in the pipeline, here’s what Furukawa said:Going forward, we have many new titles for Nintendo Switch 2 prepared, and we will carefully convey the appeal of each title to encourage people to transition to Nintendo Switch 2 at their own pace.
Industry Implications
In that context, we will work to increase the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base over the medium to long term and increase software sales and the number of annual playing users. He also added that:We are working on a variety of new titles for Nintendo Switch 2, and not just so-called major titles. For the lineup for the second half of this year, we are preparing new titles in addition to those we have already announced and will communicate the details at the appropriate time.
Nintendo’s current lineup isn’t totally empty.
This advance offers important signals about the future of the sector, and the tech world is watching closely.
