A development of great interest to the global public has come to the fore. Samed Ağırbaş, President of the Zero Waste Foundation, stated that they are constantly on the ground to protect Turkey’s watersheds, green spaces, and natural environment. Noting that they have organized Turkey Zero Waste, Environment, and Climate Change Workshops across the country, Ağırbaş noted that these workshops have allowed them to get down to the grassroots level in the provinces to identify problems, and that Provincial Zero Waste Coordination Councils have been established under the chairmanship of the governors. Explaining that these coordination councils ensure a coordinated approach to addressing environmental, zero-waste, and climate-related issues in each city, Ağırbaş stated that they will hold the final results workshop in Siirt on April 29.
Emphasizing that they meet with people almost every day in different regions of Turkey and the world through various initiatives, Ağırbaş continued: “The Zero Waste Movement, launched by Mrs. Emine Erdoğan in 2017, has now surpassed eight years and has evolved into a massive global movement resonating in 193 countries worldwide. I recently visited a slum area in Kenya, and even in that slum where over a million people live, people spoke highly of the work done by Mrs. Emine Erdoğan and Turkey. Our President has a strong vision and leadership.
Details of the Developments
We can see that vision and leadership in many different regions of the world. " Ağırbaş, who is also the High-Level Climate Champion for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), explained that they will carry out important work regarding COP31 under the leadership of Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum.
Stating that they will advance the COP31 process and the Zero Waste Movement, Ağırbaş noted that they have launched the COP31 Digital Coordination Center, adding that anyone with ideas or suggestions regarding the environment and climate can reach out to them through this center. Describing this as a grassroots movement, Ağırbaş said, “We want to work hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder with our citizens. The COP31 Digital Coordination Center is currently an active website.
People can become partners in the COP31 process and share their ideas. Our team reaches out to the individual or organization that fills out the relevant form. They schedule a meeting, listen to them, and if the project is feasible, they take action regarding the project.
This news has made its way into the top headlines of the global agenda. Experts are closely monitoring potential developments."
