No Meeting by June 30 — Where will Trump and Putin meet after that?
A significant development has taken place on the international stage. Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin visited the Monument to Martyr Teachers in Ankara’s Keçiören district alongside students. There, Tekin toured the graves one by one—starting with those of Fatma Nur Çelik and Ayla Kara, who lost their lives in attacks on schools in Istanbul and Kahramanmaraş—and laid carnations alongside the students. Following a recitation from the Quran, Tekin planted saplings with teachers and students in memory of Çelik and Kara.
Later, speaking to journalists, Minister Tekin offered condolences for the teachers and students who lost their lives in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. “During periods when the bond between the state and the nation grows stronger, dark forces—those disturbed by this—immediately step in and engage in provocative acts aimed at undermining this unity, weaken this unity," said Tekin, noting that these incidents occurred during a time marked by the extraordinary bonding between the state and the nation that began during Ramadan, as well as awareness-raising activities organized by the Ministry of National Education throughout April to instill in children a sense of national unity, solidarity, statehood, sovereignty, and democracy. Tekin stated, “Groups disturbed by the activities we are conducting—aimed at raising a generation that will fight to ensure our flag, under which we live with pride, continues to fly—and by the awareness we seek to foster, have exploited our children in such a despicable incident.
Details of the Developments
"I once again extend my condolences to our nation," he said. Minister Tekin emphasized that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had been directly involved in and coordinating the process from the moment the attacks on schools were first reported, noting that President Erdoğan had issued instructions to immediately uncover the structures and factors behind these attacks. Stating that the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice are examining the process in detail, Tekin said, “Our President has instructed that whoever is behind this—whether it be a power or individuals—must be apprehended and face justice as soon as possible.
“Currently, both ministries, along with us at the Presidency of the Inspection Board of the Ministry of National Education, are actively involved in this process,” he said. “We have launched a series of initiatives to alleviate the anxiety felt by our children and their families, and to implement short-term security measures in schools in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. At this moment, the security forces under the Ministry of the Interior are continuing their efforts to ensure that our children can continue their education safely in all our schools.
Therefore, we must emphasize that parents can rest assured that their children can continue their education in our schools." Minister Tekin added that they will soon share the security measures taken and to be taken in schools with the public.
