Sebastian Sawe completed the London Marathon in under two hours, making history as the first athlete to achieve this in an official marathon.
The 30-year-old Kenyan athlete ran the marathon, held on Sunday, April 26, in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds. The Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha, who finished second in the marathon, also completed the 42.195-kilometer distance in under two hours, with a time of 1:59:41. In the women’s race, record-holder Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia finished the race in 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 41 seconds.

The previous men’s record was held by Kelvin Kiptum, who ran the marathon in 2 hours and 35 seconds in 2023.
